Exit Only Permit (EPO)

Exit Only Permit (EPO)

Who is it for and what are the benefits?

If you currently hold a temporary residence permit (KITAS) in Indonesia and plan to leave the country, change jobs or change the type of KITAS you hold, you will be required to apply for an Exit Permit Only (EPO).

Please note, that when your KITAS expires, you are required to apply for an EPO.

The main purpose of an EPO is to ensure that all immigration documents are returned to the immigration office and you are properly removed from the records.

Some people forget or choose not to fulfill this requirement because you can still leave the country with a valid KITAS; however, if you return to Indonesia without properly terminating your visa, you may run into some problems. Please note that immigration officers have the authority to deny you access to the country if they wish.

Therefore, we cannot express enough, how important it is, that you fulfill this mandatory requirement.

When Should You Get an EPO

There are 3 occasions where you should get an EPO:

  1. When you leave Indonesia and do not intend to return
  2. If you decide to change employers and work for another company 3.
  3. If you decide to change the type of KITAS form (e.g. work KITAS to retirement KITAS)

How to Apply for EPO and What are the Requirements?

Although the procedure is quite simple, you will be required to submit several documents to the immigration office, which include:

  • Your original passport
  • A copy of your outgoing flight
  • All your original KITAS-related documents (e.g. IMTA & DPKK payments)
  • We recommend not leaving these requirements to the last minute as the process takes about 3-5 working days, you should leave the country within 5 days.

3 Steps to Getting Your EPO

  1. Provide all relevant documentation to the current KITAS and we will verify to ensure a successful application.
  2. Passport and supporting documents will be issued to the Immigration Office who will process and terminate the KITAS.
  3. Once the EPO is applied, the applicant has a maximum of 7 days to leave Indonesia.

    General Questions

If I have already left Indonesia and have not processed my EPO, what should I do?

If you have left Indonesia without submitting documents for an EPO stamp, you will need to apply for an Exit Re-entry Permit (ERP).

To process your ERP, you need to provide:

A copy of your flight ticket

A copy of the exit stamp in your passport

All original links to your KITAS

As mentioned earlier, you can still leave the country with a valid KITAS as you are allowed to travel; however the problem lies when/if you want to return, where immigration may have some uncomfortable questions for you upon your arrival. Please remember, canceling your KITAS the official way, with the EPO is mandatory.
