Japan Visa
Who is it for and what does it do?
A Japan visa is a special visa for temporary residence, and allows you to visit Japan for business, visiting family, or vacationing, as well as medical treatment. There are several types of visas officially issued by the Japanese Government. However, for tourist purposes, there are two types of visas.
1. Temporary visit visa for tourist purposes at your own expense This visa is a visa for Indonesian citizens who want to travel to Japan at their own expense. The visa permit depends on the approval given by the Japanese embassy.
2. Repeated temporary visit visa This visa is a new type of visa and was issued starting September 2012 for Indonesian citizens who want to repeatedly go to Japan, for tourism or other non-business temporary visits. This visa has a maximum validity of 3 years, with a stay of 15 days per visit.
The function of this visa is to entertain tourists and business people in Japan. Visa applications can be submitted to the Japanese embassy or at the Japanese consulate in charge of regional jurisdiction in Indonesia.
Types of Japanese Visas
- To obtain an Investor KITAS, the applicant must have a foreign-owned company (PT.PMA) in Indonesia and own its shares. Once the business is set up, you can now apply for an Investor KITAS.
- Provide all KITAS-related documentation and we will verify to ensure a successful application.
- All documentation will be uploaded to the online immigration system. Once the visa is authorized, the applicant will receive an E-Visa (Electronic Visa), which they must print out.
- The applicant can now enter Indonesia using the E-Visa.
- Upon arrival in Indonesia, the applicant must do biometrics where; they take a profile photo, as well as provide fingerprints.
- KITAS (Residence Permit) will be issued and given to the applicant within 3 days.
- Within 14 days of the issuance of the KITAS, you must register at the Civil Affairs Department, where you will obtain a SKSKPS (Temporary Resident Family Structure Certificate) and STM (Police Certificate).
Steps to obtain a Japan Visa
- Prepare the required documents to make a Japanese visa - Before applying for a Japanese visa, make sure you prepare the requirements for a Japanese visa.
- Apply for a Japanese visa to JVAC - After preparing all the documents and requirements on how to apply for a Japanese visa. You can visit the Japan Visa Application Center (JVAC) located in Kuningan, Jakarta.
- Waiting for the Japan visa application process - The Japan visa application process at JVAC usually takes 5 working days. For example, if you apply for a Japan visa on Wednesday, you can check your application at JVAC on Tuesday of the following week.
Requirements
- A valid passport, usually approved if the validity period is more than 6 months.
- Visa application form and photo (4.5 x 4.5 size).
- Copy of ID Card or Certificate of Residence.
- Copy of Student Card or Study Certificate (if student visa seeker).
- Proof of booking or airplane ticket booking.
- Travel schedule, for the outline can mention any city that will be stayed. (The itinerary should include activities from entry to exit Japan).
- Photocopy of the applicant's relationship, such as KK or birth certificate, etc. for more than one visa applicant.
- Documents related to travel expenses. (Can be a bank statement or savings account for at least the last 3 months. Usually normal IDR 1 million per day multiplied by the period of stay in Japan).

General Questions
How long does the visa process take?
The normal American visa application process takes a minimum of 15 calendar days from the time the documents are complete.
Can my Japan Visa guarantee me entry into Japan?
No, it does not. Japanese visa holders are still subject to immigration checks and the visa does not guarantee you entry into Japan.
Do I need to receive original supporting documents?
Yes. But if you want to keep your original documents, legalized documents must be provided to the Embassy. Please check your checklist to know what original documents you need to submit. However, you must submit your original passport at the time of application.
